Mark Duggan’s family have spoken of their “shock” at the conclusion reached at the end of his inquest today.

Members of the jury found Mr Duggan was lawfully killed when he was fatally shot by a police marksman on August 4, 2011.

Speaking outside the Royal Courts of Justice in central London, Marcia Willis Stewart, the Duggan family’s solicitor, said: “On the fourth of August, an unarmed man was killed on the streets of London. The jury found he had no gun in his hand and yet he was gunned down. For us, that’s an unlawful killing.

"The family are in a state of shock and we ask you respect that shock. They cannot believe that this has been the outcome. No gun in his hand and yet he was shot. Murdered.”

Shaun Hall, Mr Duggan’s brother, said: “We came for justice today. We don’t feel we are leaving with justice. We feel we are leaving with a great injustice.”

Mr Duggan's aunt, Carole Duggan, added: "For as long as it takes, God give my family strength. Not only our family but the whole of our legal team and out friends. The majority of people known Mark was executed. We believe that and we will fight for justice."

The co-director of the charity Inquest, Deborah Coles, said: "Some of the questions we feel have not been answered. It sends a very worrying message that you can be shot dead on the streets of London and no-one can be held accountable.

"The family are going to review the verdict and may seek a judicial review."
