Welcome to our blog. We want to tell you what exciting things we are doing in our schools in Tottenham.
Following a recent visit by St Francis de Sales School to the Science Museum as part of Year 5’s topic on Earth, Sun and Moon, Rachel Johnny reports on why pupils can’t wait to return.
When we reached the Science Museum in South Kensington, the Year 5s of St Francis de Sales were most interested in the 3D movie Space Station in the Imax Cinema.
While watching it, we discovered a lot of good information about how they live in space, how the astronauts made the International Space Station and much more. In elements of the movie, because we had 3D glasses on, it would look like the astronauts were in the cinema with us. Sometimes there would be people trying to catch the things they saw in front of them.
Afterwards, when it finished, a lot of the children thought the film was excellent, amazing and good. I felt delighted to have had the experience of watching ‘Space Station’.
If the pupils had to sum it up, they would say it was a fun but also educational trip. What I learned was that it takes bravery to be able to go to space and that it takes a lot of practice as well.
On Friday 14 March, children from St Francis de Sales joined pupils from across Haringey to compete in a cross country race. Benedict Adjei interviewed Somto Mekaowulu who raced in the school’s girls’ team.
What did you like best about the day?
The best thing about the race was seeing my friend Piotr do well.
How did you feel when you arrived and saw the track?
After I saw the track, I felt terrified. I thought that I would not make it as we had to run a huge hill.
How did you feel after the race?
I felt exhausted and upset because I really wanted to win for the school and it was very hard. We had to run in some mud.
Who encouraged you to run the race?
The teacher who believed in me and encouraged me is Mrs Coffi. She told me that I could do it, that I could finish the race and be a winner to her. She is a leader.
