Tottenham MP David Lammy has come out strongly in support of the group of residents trying to buy the Antwerp Arms.
The Antwerp Arms Association recently had its bid to buy the pub at market value for a retail property rejected, with the owner saying that the pub was worth a lot more.
Mr Lammy, who has himself bought shares in the pub, said: "I am deeply saddened by this news, and disappointed by the landlord’s approach, which frankly feels like extortion of the community."
The Antwerp Arms Association, a group of Tottenham residents, argues that the pub is an important part of Tottenham's heritage and should not be converted into housing.
Mr Lammy added: "I will of course continue to support the campaign for securing the Antwerp Arms as a community asset."
