A leisure centre will be shut next week in a bid to reopen swimming pools that have not been usable for almost a year.
Ongoing problems at Tottenham Green Pools in Philip Lane has seen the centre’s pools closed since the start of 2023.
The entire leisure complex – including Marcus Garvey Library and Customer Service centre, gyms, fitness studios and nursery – will now close for three days on Monday (November 20).
During this period, work will take place to replace the high voltage electrical system at the site, which is run by leisure provider Fusion Lifestyle.
Haringey Council has said that once electrical works are completed, pump maintenance, pool cleaning, filter cleaning and lighting inspections will take place.
The authority added that cleaning operations are already underway at the site.
It is hoped that both the teaching and main pools will reopen to the public in early 2024.
A Haringey Council spokesperson said: “We are delighted to be able to share the news that we are taking a big step forward in our mission to reopen the pools at Tottenham Green.
“We know how important our leisure centres are to residents in Haringey, and we understand the frustration that this prolonged closure has caused.
“The process of replacing the high voltage electrical system at the site has been extremely complex, but we are now in a position to move forward with these works.
“Unfortunately, this will require a short closure to some of the other services at Tottenham Green, but with these works complete we should be on course to finally reopen the pools early next year.
“We will continue to keep residents updated every step of the way.”
