A man has been jailed after a machete attack in which the victim was left for dead.

A 19-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in Parkland Road, Wood Green, on the afternoon of November 8 last year.

His attackers fled the scene, leaving him for dead. Officers were able to perform first aid at the scene, before he was airlifted to hospital.

His condition was stabilised after emergency surgery, and he survived.

Investigating Officer Detective Constable Rachael Pagett said: “This was a shockingly violent attack that was clearly intended to end the life of the victim.

“Were it not for the fast actions and first aid skills of my uniformed colleagues this could so easily have been a murder investigation. Their actions undoubtedly saved the victim’s life.”

Using mobile phone data, DC Pagett was able to place Kennedy Latigo at the scene at the time of the attack.

She also obtained CCTV footage of the 28-year-old travelling to and from the scene with a second suspect.

Latigo, of Hows Street, Hackney, was arrested as he attempted to flee the country from Stansted Airport on November 30.

He was taken into custody where he answered no comment to all questions.

The 28-year-old later pleaded not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent and was remanded in custody to await trial.

But on May 20 at Wood Green Crown Court, Latigo changed his plea to guilty and was remanded in custody to await sentencing.

He appeared at the same court last Friday (July 19) and was sentenced to 30 months’ imprisonment.

Three other men arrested in connection with the incident were released with no further action.
