Seniors paraded in distinctive purple dresswear “to be seen and heard” at Tottenham’s first ‘Age Well’ festival.
The parade through Bruce Castle Park had older folk exploring “what it truly means to age well”.
It was inspired by Jenny Joseph’s well-known poem Warning, which defies age-related stereotypes, beginning "When I am an old woman I shall wear purple".
Organisers invited them to parade in their favourite shades of purple. Festival themes included ‘wellness’ and creative zones, as well as dance and live music with activities like ‘Nordic walking’, pickleball and ‘walking’ cricket.
Artist Donald Waugh added a touch of creative flair with his team of ‘ambassadors’ designing purple headpieces for the parade, each symbolising the diverse journeys people take as they get older.
This was the first of what could be an annual parade put on by Haringey Council and the NHS North Central London Board to give seniors a chance “to be seen, heard and celebrate the invaluable contributions they make” to society.
