A 35-year-old man who was arrested after a suspected acid attack outside a west London school has been released. 

Tegan McFarlane, 14, needed to have surgery after suffering potentially life-changing injuries following the incident on September 30.

A boy, 16, was also hurt outside Westminster Academy in Alfred Road was treated for "less severe" injuries.

A member of staff at the school sustained injuries as a result of rushing to the two children to give first aid.

An investigation was launched and on the morning of October 3, a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

He was taken to a central London police station however he has since been bailed pending further enquires.

A 14-year-old girl was arrested in connection with the incident, she has also been bailed.

Detectives say "a lone man" threw a substance at the teenagers before fleeing on an electric scooter along Harrow Road.

Corey McFarlane, Teagan's dad, previously said "words could not express the shock, pain, and trauma" his daughter is going through, "both physically and emotionally".

She is said to have sustained burns to the left side of her face, and was due to undergo surgery. 

The 37-year-old added: "“This situation has also deeply affected my daughter mentally.

“She’s very traumatised by the attack.

“She's very scared about her injuries. She's a young girl, and these scars could be for life."

The injured boy has since been discharged from hospital.

Detective Superintendent Scott Ware, investigating the incident, said: “We are aware of the concerns raised by the community and questions that are being asked about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

"We have been working closely with our key partners to provide support and reassurance to those affected.

“We will maintain a visible policing presence outside the school and will continue to work closely with the school and local authority.

“I continue to urge anyone who has information about this incident and has not yet contacted police to call the investigations team on 020 7175 4652.

“If you were in the vicinity of Alfred Road around the time of the attack and have dashcam footage that could prove key to our investigation, we ask that you urgently get in touch with us."
