The Devil Wears Prada Afternoon Tea The Coral Room: Review

This October, London is set to welcome its newest musical to the West End scene with The Devil Wears Prada, which will be playing at the Dominion Theatre.

But that’s not all - to celebrate, The Coral Room has launched their new “Runway Afternoon Tea” completely inspired by this cult classic.

You’ll find this afternoon tea at The Bloomsbury Hotel on Great Russell Street, where upon entering you’ll find a flower display made into the iconic red Miranda Priestly shoe for obligatory photos.

I couldn’t think of a more appropriate setting for this afternoon tea - with its red walls, fashion prints and swanky bar, it certainly has that Runway feel.

(Image: Emily Davison) We first began by sampling some of their cocktails including The Miranda Club, a take on a classic Clover Club with a twist made with Vltamura Vodka, Hedgerow Berry and Rose Shrub, Cocchi Extra Dry Vermouth, raspberry and lemon juice, with the red heel on top.

If you like the traditional tarte taste from a Clover Club this is definitely worth a try, it was really delicious but with a slightly more floral taste with the rose.

They also had a pretty good selection of teas ranging from black teas, chais and herbal teas as well as coffee and hot chocolate if you aren’t a tea person.

(Image: Emily Davison) For savouries they had a mix of both sandwiches and other savoury options with some nods to the films, including Nates’ grilled cheese sandwich and a smoked salmon rillette sub roll which were two of my favourites.

They also had a selection of classic finger sandwiches including truffled egg and mayonnaise, roast turkey and cucumber and crème fraiche, and if you like any you can also ask for a top up if you want more.

Scones included freshly baked buttermilk and raisin scones served with clotted cream and jam, as well as cinnamon Madeleines to nod to the ongoing rivalry with the French Runway in the film.

We began with the “No foam skimmed latte with an extra shot” cake, which consisted of Hazelnut, coffee and caramel, which actually ended up being my favourite out of the four.

(Image: Emily Davison) This was followed by the “A single cube of cheese” New York Cheesecake, which was creamy with a rich vanilla taste, followed by the “It’s not just blue, its cerulean” blueberry mousse with popping candy.

Finally, we finished off with a decadent Devil’s Chocolate Cake topped with tiny heeled Funfetti, before I rounded off the experience with the Cerulean cocktail made with Silent Pool Gin, Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto and Butterfly Pea Tea to give it that blue colour.

The Devil Wears Prada Afternoon Tea at The Coral Room is priced at £48 a person with an additional charge if you want to get cocktails or a glass of prosecco.
