Kyle Clifford, who is accused of the murders of Carol, Louise, and Hannah Hunt in Bushey, appeared in crown court from prison this morning.
The mention hearing in the case was adjourned at Cambridge Crown Court after starting at around 10am (November 28).
Clifford, of Rendlesham Road, Enfield, was not asked for pleas when he appeared by prison videolink from Belmarsh.
The judge, Mr Justice Johnson, said his preference was for a plea hearing on December 5 with the defendant to be produced to court.
He added that he would need to make enquiries before a date could be fixed.
The 26-year-old defendant, who now uses a wheelchair, was charged with three counts of murder, false imprisonment, and two counts of possession of offensive weapons - namely a 10-inch butchers knife and a crossbow - over the killings in Ashlyn Close on July 9.

The court heard he used a "10-inch butchers knife" and a compound crossbow with the MXT405 serial number to murder the three women.
Westminster Magistrates' Court previously heard he had shot himself with his own crossbow before he was caught by police in the Lavender Hill cemetery in Enfield the day after the killings.
