A COLLISION of sporting cultures took place at a Tottenham school where young people were given a training session with Spurs players and US American Football team San Fran 49ers on Tuesday.
The 49ers visited Northumberland Park Community School, in Trulock Road, ahead of their NFL hame at Wembley Stadium this weekend to give pupils a crash course in their version of the beautiful game during half-term.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson also got in on the action and swapped kicking the ball for throwing it as part of the Football and Football community project.
He was given top tips from the 49ers offensive linemen Mike Iupati and Tony Wragge despite the wet and windy weather.
The Spurs star said: "It's great. You go into training every day and kick a ball around, but we certainly don't do any throwing.
"I had a go and the lads were fantastic."
More than 60 young people were able to hone their football – or soccer – skills and try their hand at a new sport.
They also got to meet the 49ers Gold Rush cheerleaders and learn how they keep fit.
Mike Iupati said: "We are out here getting used to the weather before we play on Sunday. It's cold, but it's fun being here."
Spurs legend turned coach Clive Allen was also able to re-live his brief spell with the London Monarchs, in the NFL Europe league, following his retirement from football in 1995.
