A CHRISTMAS tree has been planted outside a Hornsey primary school on Saturday the community hopes will blossom into a seasonal landmark.
Hornsey ward councillor, Robert Gorrie, the leader of the Haringey Liberal Democrats, was given the honour of planting the evergreen outside St Mary's Junior School in Middle Lane in the midst of festive celebrations.
An annual Christmas lantern procession took place left by the Air Cadets band and carols from the Kaos Choir with a yuletide message from Baptist Minister Trefor Jones.
Businesses grouped together to donate £650 to pay for Christmas lights to add to a winter wonderland feel.
Mr Gorrie said: "It's wonderful that as a result of local people and businesses working together we have been able to plant a real Christmas tree which will grow with the community. I want to thank everybody who helped and made this happen."
He added: "Hopefully year after year the new Christmas tree will grow and, with the lights, it will be a feature of Hornsey Christmases in the future."
