RIOTING has broken out in Tottenham in an apparent response to the shooting dead of a 29-year-old man by police on Thursday.
A bus, a shop and two patrol cars have reportedly been set on fire. A crowd of around 300 has gathered and there have been reports of looting and shop windows being smashed.
Yesterday around 120 people marched from the Broadwater Farm area to Tottenham Police Station, in High Road, forcing police to close the road and divert traffic.
The victim, named locally as father-of-four Mark Duggan, died at the scene in Tottenham Hale.
He was shot twice by an officer from the Metropolitan Police's specialist firearms team CO19 in Ferry Lane, as part of the force's Operation Trident after a shoot-out at about 6.15pm when police stopped a minicab in Ferry Lane to arrest him.
