A new image thought to be by Banksy has popped up in Turnpike Lane overnight.
A picture of a child labourer making Union Jack bunting appeared on the side of a Poundland in Whymark Avenue.
The image is believed to be a comment on the upcoming Olympic celebrations and on the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
It shows a child wearing a T-shirt, shorts and a sports visor kneeling on the pavement using an old-fashioned sewing machine.
Banksy is an English street artist who creates satirical images in a graffiti style.
He has previously attracted attention through stunts such as climbing into the penguin enclosure at London Zoo and writing on the wall: "We're bored of fish".
There is speculation that this latest image is making reference to a revelation two years ago that a seven-year-old boy was working 100 hours a week in an Indian sweatshop to make some of Poundland's products.
Tim McDonnell, Retail Director at Poundland said: "We are fans of Banksy and we are proud supporters of the Queen's Jubilee.
"Poundland has a clear defined code of conduct for all our suppliers and a strong ethical stance on all labour issues."
