Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen to beat West Ham United to the signing of Swiss centre-back Fabian Schar.
The Daily Mirror report Spurs are keen on signing the FC Basel defender this summer but will face competition from Premier League rivals West Ham for the 23-year-old.
Schar is a full Swiss international and has won 12 caps as well as featuring at the 2014 World Cup for his country.
The 6ft 1in defender began his professional career with FC Wil 1900 before joining Basel in 2012. He has since scored seven times in 66 outings for the Swiss giants, twice winning the league.
Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino signed centre-back Federico Fazio last summer and is expected to move on Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches this summer, heightening his need for a defender.
