Harry Kane equalled a club record as Tottenham Hotspur clinched a place in the Europa League group stage by finishing fifth in the Premier League thanks to a 1-0 win at Everton on the final day of the season.
Mauricio Pochettino's side will now compete in the group stage of next season's competition after leapfrogging Liverpool to the all-important position, avoiding the rigmorale of a play-off.
The Reds were beaten 6-1 at Stoke City and although it was a less spectacular result at Goodison Park, it does mean Spurs finish the season with back-to-back wins after defeating Hull City at White Hart Lane last weekend.
Inevitably Kane got the game's decisive goal after 24 minutes - his 21st league goal of the season and 31st in all competitions - equalling a Premier Leagure record for Spurs previously achieved by Teddy Sheringham, Jurgen Klinsmann and Gareth Bale.
And the goal came when Kane met Eric Dier's right-wing cross, nodding beyond Toffees goalkeeper Tim Howard to ultimately settle the contest.
The home side offered little in reply, Seamus Coleman coming closest with an angled effort as Spurs finished two points ahead of sixth-placed Liverpool.
